Retrofit of ticket machines for cashless payment transactions
The Montreux Oberland Bernois Railway AG (MOB) and Transports Montreux-Vevey-Riviera SA (MVR) are transport companies that operate the railway lines between Montreux and Lenk as well as the railways and funiculars in the Montreux and Vevey regions. There are 26 ticket machines in operation along the rail network. To prepare these machines for the future, they were modernized and converted to purely cashless payment transactions.
Integration into existing machines
In this project, the components to be replaced, such as the payment terminal and printer, were evaluated in advance by another service provider. Afterwards, konplan was commissioned to develop and implement the mechanical components for retrofitting the ticket machines. The goal was to find a quick, cost-effective, high-quality solution for rapid integration into the existing machines. This involved finding solutions, design, procurement, delivery, and lastly the mechanical retrofit at the respective machine locations.
Massive reduction in maintenance costs
Thanks to the optimal solution and excellent preparation, the machines were retrofitted on site and returned to operation within a few hours. With the conversion to purely cashless payments, the maintenance costs for MOB and MVR have been massively reduced. Also, the machine front has been designed for better clarity and makes operating the machines more user-friendly for customers.
